Description
Raiwand Chini at sknatural is rhizome of Rheum emodi Wall. It belongs to family “Polygonaceae”. It has compound temperament. Generally, people use its rhizomes. It has reddish yellow color. It has strong unpleasant taste. Its main constituent is chrysophanic acid.

Stimulant and liver tonic, primarily: mild (anthraquinone) purgative, secondarily: stomachic and astringent in relatively small dose, diuretic and emmenagogue, deobstruent (especially for liver and intestines).

The root of Rheum emodi Wall. ex Meissn. earns renown for effectively treating various skin conditions, including freckles, navus, moles, spots, and ringworms. When individuals bruise and mix it with vinegar, they apply it externally to the affected parts, particularly the face. Additionally, people sometimes use it externally to relieve local inflammations and administer it systemically.
In cases of certain types of coughs, asthma, and haemoptysis, as well as to alleviate flatulence, stomach and intestinal debility, and to stop frequent motions, practitioners prescribe small doses of Rheum emodi. They also use it to address diarrhoea resulting from indigestion, jaundice, dropsy, liver inflammations, spleen inflammation, and quartan fever, administering it through various methods.
One distinguishing feature of Rheum emodi is its astringent action following purgation, setting it apart from other anthraquinone purgatives. With small doses, the astringent action predominates, making it valuable as an astringent bitter, particularly in treating diarrhoea. It is especially recommended for children’s constipation, anaemic females, gouty subjects, and during puerperal states due to the mildness of its action.
