Description

Jalaba Harar at sknatural is Mirabilis jalapa Linn. It belongs to family “Nyctaginaceae”. Generally, people use its leaves, seeds and root. It is warm and dry in third degree. The plant is a perennial, herbaceous, bushy species that typically reaches heights of 1 meter, occasionally up to 2 meters. Farmers can also cultivate it as an annual herb, particularly in temperate zones. The fruits are spherical, wrinkled, and black when ripe, initially greenish-yellow. Stems are thick, full, quadrangular, with numerous ramifications, and root at the nodes.

Jalaba Harar is a knotty root of a plant that is the color of turnips. It is black from the outside and yellowish from the inside. You can commonly find it in the mountainous regions of Mexico (America) and India during the summer season. If the root is large, it is cut into two or four pieces. Its odor is like that of smoke. There is no difference in smell whether it is in the form of powder. Its taste is sweet at the beginning and then becomes unpleasant.

Recommended dosage:

Root and leaves 7-12 g. Mostly single herb preparations are used.

Medicinal  uses:

Gul-e-`Abbas addresses a variety of ailments. Its root functions as a purgative and aphrodisiac. Furthermore, it acts as an effective concoctive, aiding in the breakdown of hard swellings after suppuration, thus releasing putrefied matter from the affected site. The root’s decoction relieves joint pains associated with rheumatism and syphilis. Its seeds halt internal hemorrhages, particularly excessive bleeding in menorrhagia, due to their astringent and styptic properties.

Dried and powdered flowers alleviate piles. The leaves promote suppuration in cases of abscesses and boils when used as poultices. Additionally, the fresh juice of the leaves acts as a demulcent and provides relief when topically applied to the body in cases of urticaria. Moreover, externally applying the root, rubbed with water, relieves contusions.
