Medicinal uses:
The extract of root of Rheum emodi Wall. ex Meissn. earns renown for effectively treating various skin conditions, including freckles, navus, moles, spots, and ringworms. When individuals bruise and mix it with vinegar, they apply it externally to the affected parts, particularly the face. Additionally, people sometimes use it externally to relieve local inflammations and administer it systemically.
In cases of certain types of coughs, asthma, and haemoptysis, as well as to alleviate flatulence, stomach and intestinal debility, and to stop frequent motions, practitioners prescribe small doses of Rheum emodi. They also use it to address diarrhoea resulting from indigestion, but not chronic ones, administering it through various methods.
It is also useful in facial palsy, paralysis, paresis, convulsions, and madness.
One distinguishing feature of it is its astringent action following purgation, setting it apart from other anthraquinone purgatives. With small doses, the astringent action predominates, making it valuable as an astringent bitter, particularly in treating diarrhoea. It is especially recommended for children’s constipation, anaemic females, gouty subjects, and during puerperal states due to the mildness of its action.
Moreover, Rayond asara proves highly effective in diarrhoea caused by the presence of crude or irritating ingesta. It also benefits some forms of dyspepsia, serving as a remedy of great value either alone or when combined with other suitable agents.
