Description

Tatri moti or sat limu at sknatural is dried crystal extract of Citrus limon. It is citric acid. It is Cold and moist in first order. Citric acid, with the chemical formula HOC(CO2H)(CH2CO2H)2, is a colorless weak organic acid commonly found in citrus fruits. Biochemically, it serves as an intermediate in the citric acid cycle, which is essential in the metabolism of all aerobic organisms.

Manufacturers produce over two million tons of citric acid annually, employing it widely as an acidifier, flavoring agent, and chelating agent. Its presence in various fruits and vegetables, especially citrus fruits, is notable. Lemons and limes, in particular, boast high concentrations of the acid, constituting up to 8% of their dry weight. The concentration of citric acid varies across citrus species, ranging from 0.005 mol/L for oranges and grapefruits to 0.30 mol/L in lemons and limes, influenced by factors such as cultivar and growing conditions.

The isolation of citric acid dates back to 1784 when the chemist Carl Wilhelm Scheele first crystallized it from lemon juice.

Uses:

People widely use tatri moti for cleaning purposes. Street vendors use it to make khatta pani; a necessary drink with gol gappy which are extremely famous in Indo-Pak subcontinent. Physicians utilize it  to prevent scurvy, they also employ this substance in treating nervous and hysterical complaints. Furthermore, it serves as an excellent tonic, particularly beneficial for invalids, including those afflicted with anemia, hepatic and cardiac issues, as well as problems related to gums and teeth.

It is edible acid and masses use it as preservative in beverages etc.

While citric acid is a weak acid, exposure to pure forms of it can lead to adverse effects. Inhalation of citric acid may result in symptoms such as coughing, shortness of breath, or a sore throat. Moreover, over-ingestion can lead to abdominal pain and a sore throat. Additionally, exposure of concentrated citric acid solutions to the skin and eyes can cause redness and pain.
