Description
Sapari Safaid at sknatural is Areca catechu Linn. It belongs to family “Palmae”. Generally, people use its nuts. It is cold and dry in second order. The areca nut is not a true nut but the seed of a fruit categorized as a berry. It is commercially available in dried, cured, and fresh forms. When the husk of the fresh fruit is green, the nut inside is soft enough you can cut it with a typical knife. As the fruit ripens, the husk turns yellow or orange, and upon drying, the fruit inside hardens to a wood-like consistency. At this stage, slicing the areca nut requires a special scissors-like cutter.

Properties:
Astringent, stimulant, sialagogue, masticatory, remove bad taste from mouth, sweeten breath, anthelmintic, emmenagogue, repercussive, resolvent of inflammations (of warm-origin).
Stimulant for the peristaltic movement of the intestines and bowels, produces a marked constriction of the bronchial muscles (generally acts an hour after administration).

3 to 5 g. (powdered or dried into ash).
Medicinal uses:
Sapari safaid widely recommend combating tapeworms and roundworms, particularly in veterinary medicine. Practitioners administer them in cases of diarrhea and dysentery. Additionally, these nuts possess digestive properties and act as an emmenagogue. They also function as an astringent lotion for the eyes, inducing pupil dilation. Moreover, people apply them to bleeding gums, teeth for strengthening, and ulcers and urinary discharges for treatment. They effectively halt watery discharges from the vagina and alleviate pyrosis during pregnancy.
In the Orient, people primarily use betel nut as a breath-sweetening masticatory, enjoying it for centuries and commonly using it in Pan. Furthermore, in cases of conjunctivitis and epiphora, people convert the nut into ash, finely powder it, and apply it as a collyrium to provide relief.
