Description

Satawar at sknatural is Asparagus racemosus Willd. It belongs to family “Liliaceae”. Generally, people use its roots. It is Cold and moist in first order. (1) Balanced in warmness and cold, moist in the first order. (2) Warm in first order, moist in second order (with Rutubat Fazliyyah). (3) Cold and moist.

Asparagus racemosus, a climber, features stems reaching up to 4 meters in length. Its roots exhibit both fibrous and tuberous characteristics.

Transitioning to its physical attributes, Shatavari boasts small pine-needle-like phylloclades, which are uniform and shiny green. During July, this plant blooms with minute, white flowers adorning short, spiky stems. Come September, it bears fruit, yielding blackish-purple, globular berries. Moreover, its root system is adventitious, comprising tuberous roots measuring approximately one meter in length. These roots taper at both ends, with roughly a hundred on each plant.

Recommended dosage:

3-5 g. (approximately) / 7-12 g. (approximately). The root bark is poisonous and physicians never advise it to take with the root. However, the root is nutritive  and has no known side effects in recommended doses. Generally, people candied, dry and take it as sweet meat.

Medicinal uses:

Asparagus finds widespread use in genito-urinary complaints such as seminal weakness, impotence, spermatorrhoea, and leucorrhoea. Additionally, it is commonly prescribed for gastrointestinal disorders including bilious dyspepsia, flatulence, diarrhea, and dysentery. It is also utilized in addressing pulmonary complaints.

Moreover, a  medicated oil derived from asparagus is applied in cases of rheumatism, joint diseases, stiff-neck, hemiplegia, and other nervous disorders. Another oil or paste, prepared from asparagus juice mixed with sesame oil, lac decoction, whey, and milk, serves as an effective remedy for chronic gonorrhea and other urinary organ ailments when applied to the pubic region.

Furthermore, consuming the juice of the root with milk is beneficial in treating gonorrhea. Boiling the root in milk and administering the mixture helps alleviate bilious dyspepsia, diarrhea, and promotes appetite. It is advisable to use healthy and white roots, as their quality is reputed to remain intact for up to four years.
