Properties:
Raai Barik are digestive, laxative, decongestant, stimulant, rubefacient, vesicant, external application first causes irritation and then exert soothing action, appetite stimulant, resolvent (of inflammation especially of the spleen). Large dose may act as emetic.

Medicinal uses:
Black mustard plays a role in treating affections caused by an excess of cold malhumours, such as meningitis, paralysis, palsy, rheumatism, gout, sciatica, pleurisy, pneumonia, and more. Generally, people crush the seeds into a suitable vehicle or oil and massage them over the thoracic region. They also apply a paste of seeds in ointment or cream over relevant parts in cases of stomachache, painful liver, or spleen.
Moreover, to address amenorrhea resulting from cold, individuals utilize Sitz baths prepared with a decoction of black mustard seeds. They also incorporate expressed oil into the diet. Additionally, as a resolvent and vesicant, they powder seeds and mix them with white mustard, forming mustard flour or plaster applied over ringworm, leucodermal affected regions, alopecia, gout, sciatica, urticaria, hard swelling, and ulcers. Decoction of seeds also serves as effective gargles for tongue and gum inflammations.
Furthermore, for stomach-related issues and to counteract the poisonous effects of some toxins, individuals administer approximately 12 grams of seeds as an emetic in lukewarm water.
