Description

Zeeri Siah at sknatural is Carum carvi Linn. It belongs to family “Umbelliferae/Apiaceae”. Generally people use its fruit (seeds) and oil (obtained through steam distillation). It is Warm and dry in third order.

Generally the plant shares similarities in appearance with other members of the carrot family, featuring finely divided, feathery leaves with thread-like divisions that grow on 20–30 cm (8–12 in) stems. Its main flower stem stands 30–60 cm (12–24 in) tall, bearing small white or pink flowers in compound umbels consisting of 5–16 unequal rays measuring 1–6 cm (0.4–2.4 in) long. Caraway fruits, informally seeds, are smooth, crescent-shape, laterally compress achenes, approximately 3 mm (1⁄8 in) long, exhibiting five pale ridges and emitting a distinctive pleasant smell when crushed. The flowering period typically occurs in June and July.
